Two teens arrested after stealing guns

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta Police are working to figure out if two teenagers accused of breaking into a gun store are responsible for two other burglaries.

That gun store remains closed after police say the suspects swiped guns and ran over the weekend. But they didn't get far.

Police say 19-year-old Emmanuel Bryant and 18-year-old Blake Thomas were trying to get their hands on guns when they broke into New Century Outdoors on Bemiss Road around 4 a.m. Saturday morning. They almost got away with multiple rifles and handguns but police were able to catch them.

"Anytime you have a weapon stolen, God knows what you're going to do with it. So we're just glad to have the guns back and in the right hands," said Valdosta Police Chief, Brian Childress.

Police responded to the business after the alarm sounded. The two ran and hid the guns near the business. Bryant was caught during the chase and Thomas was arrested just hours later.

"If the alarm had not gone off we may not have caught these guys. Certainly we would have never gone to the business in the first place," said Childress.

Even with these metal bars blocking the windows, Thomas was able to squeeze his way inside.

One man says he worries what their intentions may have been with the guns.

"At least they may not be going to use them on revenge or take harm on people," said Jerry Warren.

Police say the duo may be involved with two other commercial burglaries.

"These two offenders are being looked at closely, with the possibility that they may have been involved with other burglaries over this past weekend," said Childress.

The firearms were found and returned to the store owner. It is not known when the store will reopen.

The two men are charged with burglary. Bryant was also charged with possession of marijuana.

More charges are pending against the men.
