Douglas Police arrest man for firing shots

DOUGLAS, GA (WALB) -

Officers from the Douglas Police Dept. responded to a reported Aggravated Assault in the area of Spooner Road and S.E. Bowens mill Road in Douglas, Friday.

 Contact was made with the Victim who stated that 29 year old, Johnny Lee Cross II had shot at him several times. The Victim was not injured in the incident.

Officers were directed by the Victim to 408 Mackenzie Circle where the alleged Offender was located. Officers located Mr. Cross outside the residence on Mackenzie Circle. While attempting to talk to Mr. Cross he was uncooperative and fled into the residence locking the door.

All subsequent requests by Officers for Mr. Cross to cooperate were ignored. Believing that Mr. Cross was armed Officers set a perimeter around the residence and initiated contact with Mr. Cross. After several hours Mr. Cross surrendered to Officers without incident.

Mr. Cross was charged with Aggravated Assault and transported to the Coffee County Jail. Other charges may be filed. The Douglas Police Dept. received assistance in this incident from the Coffee County Sheriff's Office, the Fitzgerald Police Dept. and members the Georgia State Patrol.

    The passenger of a car that caught on fire Friday morning is OK. A woman said she was driving to work on GA Highway 300 when she took the Slappey Boulevard South exit.
