Shots fired in the early morning hours in Albany

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An Albany teenager is recovering after being shot in the leg early Sunday morning.

Albany Police say around 1:30am Sunday a house at 2014 Flintlock was shot up.  Officials say while they were investigating the scene, they received a call about a victim from that shooting on North Riverview Drive.  Police say 18 year-old Shaquille Mathis was shot in the left leg.  Mathis told police he was outside when he heard the shooting and was injured running away from the commotion.

Mathis was taken to Phoebe for treatment.  The gang unit was on scene assisting with the Robbery/Homicide Unit and the Uniform Bureau.

Nearly three hours later Albany Police were called to another shooting at 1106 Avalon Avenue.  Police say four people were inside when someone fired several gunshot rounds into their apartment.  No one was injured.

Both incidents remain under investigation and are not believed to be connected at this time.

If anyone has information regarding either of the shootings, they can call crime stoppers or the Albany Police.
