ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Folks gathered at an Albany church to help raise awareness about child abuse, Friday night.

More than 200 people showed up to First United Methodist Church for an event called A Meal & A Mission.

Guests enjoyed dinner and heard stories from four women who were victims of child abuse.

Organizers say it's important to stand up for children.

"It's just not fair to them. You violate their rights, so it's just not fair that people violate their rights. We want people to know to stop hurting our children," said Open Arms, Inc. Executive Director Dr. Fonda Thompson.

All proceeds from Friday's event went to Open Arms, an organization dedicated to helping child abuse victims.

April is Child Abuse awareness month.
