Bring your best buds to the Rose Festival

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

A rosy 92-year tradition continued Friday in Georgia's city of roses.

The Rose Show and Festival is underway in Thomasville.

Mayor Max Beverly kicked off the event with Miss Georgia, Leighton Jordan and Thomasville Rose Queen, Elizabeth Oglesby.

While the weekend will consist of parades, car shows, and other events, the heart of the festival remains the Rose Show.

Bob Schelhorn from Tallahassee grew this year's Queen Rose.

"I'm still a little bit numb. Still a little numb. I've texted all the friends I know, but they are not rosarians. They don't understand the full impact of it. The rose people know though. It's a big award."

The 65th annual Rose Parade kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday in Downtown Thomasville. Click below for the complete list of Festival events.
