Even churches are robbed

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County Investigators are looking for thieves who are targeting rural churches. Berean Freewill Baptist on Branch Road was hit by burglars sometime between Sunday and yesterday.

The burglars pried open a side door but could not get into the office, and nothing was stolen. It's the second rural church hit recently.

"Some churches have services on Wednesday and Sunday. Some are just on Sunday. It could be several days before anyone is in and out of the church. A lot of time they go unnoticed for a couple of days until someone arrives for the church service," said DCP Sgt. Chad Kirkpatrick.

Antioch Baptist Church on Moultrie Road was broken into two weeks ago but the alarm scared off the thieves.

If you see any suspicious activity around rural churches or have any information call Dougherty County Police at 430-6600.
