Albany's unemployment rate declines


Metro Albany's unemployment rate is on the decline.

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday the unemployment rate fell to 8.9% in March.

That's down two-tenths of a percentage point from 9.1% in February.

Officials say the rate declined because the number of unemployed people decreased to 6,582, down by 209 from 6,791 in February.

The unemployment rate in the Southwest Georgia region declined to 8.5&  in March, down three-tenths of a percentage point from 8.8% in February, the GDOL said.

The rate was 9.0 percent in March a year ago.

Georgia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for March was 8.4 percent, down from 8.6 percent in February.
