Enrollment suspension lifted at Turner Job Corps

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany's Turner Job Corps will soon be able to enroll new students again.

This week, the US Department of Labor lifted its temporary enrollment suspension at Job Corps Centers around the country.

Budget problems led to the freeze in January.

Had it continued, Turner could have faced layoffs that would have hurt the local economy.

Officials say instructors are ready to get back to doing what they do best.

"We really love working with our students. We love seeing their change from the beginning of the program to graduation. To have even more students go through such a positive program, our staff is just as excited to be a part of that process," said Calandra Jefferson with Turner Job Corps.

Around 200 students were in the process of enrolling when the suspension went into effect.

They'll get top priority when enrollment restarts, likely next month.
