Firefighters train with foam alternatives

DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) -

Albany Firefighters are wrapping up training on a new aerial truck.

It's now scheduled go on line next week.

Wednesday firefighters practiced using the two chemical foam tanks on the nearly million dollar truck.

Depending on what's burning, firefighters decide what type of chemical to use to fight the fire.

Captain Eugene Anderson said "There are certain flammable liquids that you can't use water on. The foam has the chemicals and the properties whereby you can smother the fire. Eliminating the oxygen."

Captain Anderson said for instance if gasoline were on fire, firefighters would use this kind of foam to smother it.

Water would only spread the fire.
