Parents meet with Dougherty County educators

Demetria Smith, Assistant Principal Demetria Smith, Assistant Principal
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

On Tuesday night, the Dougherty County School System continued its effort to inform parents about the changes coming when three schools close next year.

About 50 parents attended a meeting tonight at Live Oak Elementary where more than 140 students will be rezoned when Magnolia Elementary is re-purposed next fall.

Live Oak faculty welcomed incoming students and parents and gave them a tour of the school.

"So we just kind of took them through a day at Live Oak. What they can expect when their children arrive the first day," said Demetria Smith, Assistant Principal.  "What we do all day, the routines for the children, different activities that we have. We just wanted the parents and the students to feel welcome about coming to our school."

The main questions from parents were about bussing students farther to Live Oak which is out Gillionville Road. The system started these series of meetings Monday night.

Seven more are scheduled over the next couple of weeks.
