    Work is now underway to widen about two, and half miles of Carpenter Road in Tifton.When construction is complete, there will be two lanes of traffic in each direction, plus a center turn lane with curbs and gutters on both sides of the road.Drivers are encouraged to use an alternate route.The work is expected to be complete in October.Copyright 2014 WALB. ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

High water may have chased alligators from their normal spots as a side effect from all the rain in south Georgia this year.

A small gator showed up in a southwest Albany neighborhood this evening. Folks spotted him in the middle of the road in the 2900 block of Harvest Lane.

When Department of Natural Resources Rangers showed up to catch him, he was on the patio of a home and he put up quite a fight.

"At first he was sitting in the road, and we pulled up on him. That's when he crossed the street and got into the driveway," said Keion Miller, Resident. "And then he sat down again, so we got closer and closer, trying to take pictures. And then that's when he snapped, and we backed up off him."

Miller called animal control which called in the DNR.

Rangers estimate the gator is about 2-years old. They plan to release him in a safe area away from a neighborhood.
