Meth sweep underway in Sumter County

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

More arrests are expected to come out of a crystal meth drug trafficking investigation in Sumter County.

Sumter County Sheriff Pete Smith says $3,500 worth of crystal methamphetamine was seized, in addition to a truck. Last week deputies issued 18 warrants and so far, six people have been arrested.

James William Wells, 46, of Parrot, and Ronald Jay Cobb, 49, of Columbus were taken in the sweep.  Four people from Americus were arrested: Kristen Leigh Welch, 31,  Shanna Diann Tindel, 30, Leslie Ryan Huddleston, 31, and Carl James Blaine age 50.   

"The majority of these people are not first time offenders, they've been arrested before and have extensive background in drugs and narcotics," said Sheriff Smith.

Smith says they're still conducting interviews and more arrests are expected. He said this investigation wouldn't be possible without the help of surrounding agencies.

 

Information from the Sumter County Sheriff's Office

 The Sumter County Sheriff's Office has been working an active criminal investigation into a drug trafficking network distributing Crystal Methamphetamine, in the Sumter County area. 

On April 18th and 19th approximately 18 warrants were issued in this investigation. 

As a result of this investigation, approximately $3,500 of Crystal Methamphetamine was seized to include $35,000 in assets.

Additional arrests are pending. However, warrants have been served against six people who were arrested.
