ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany YMCA in conjunction with Phoebe Diabetes Care Center presents Camp KWD and Camp FIT. Camp KWD is for kids, ages 8-13, with type 1 or type 2 diabetes or those who have a family history of diabetes.

Camp is also open to kids who have pre-diabetes, metabolic syndrome or have been told that they are at risk for developing diabetes. A Phoebe dietitian will offer expert advice on an age-appropriate level, and throughout camp, Phoebe nurses will monitor blood glucose before and after various activities.

Camp FIT stands for Fun, Informational, Transforming. This camp will be fun and educational for kids, ages 8-13, who need to live a healthier lifestyle for weight management or to reduce the risk of developing certain disorders, such as diabetes.

Phoebe dietitians and nurses will work together with YMCA fitness staff to provide fun, engaging and informative activities that are age-appropriate. Participants will be inspired to adopt a healthier lifestyle, while acquiring new tools for success and making new friends.

Both Camp KWD and Camp FIT will be held June 17-21 at the YMCA Central Facility, 1701 Gillionville Road, Albany.

Planned camp activities include: Swimming, Sports, Games, Arts & Crafts, Creative Movement, Movies, Turbo Kidz workout, Field Day, Family Zumba, educational sessions on weight management, healthy meals and snacks, the importance of exercise, and more.

Fees for an entire week of camp at either camp is $79 for YMCA Members and $89 for non-members. Also, the Y is offering 50% off this fee if registered by June 1. Also, thanks to the generosity of The Few Motorcycle Club Poker Run fundraiser, the YMCA has full and partial scholarships to offer for camp. Funds are limited, so apply for scholarships early.
