ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Some Dougherty Country high schoolers got a free sports physical examination, Friday.

More than 400 students from Albany and Monroe High Schools received required free physical examinations Friday afternoon the Orthopedic Associates on Pointe North Boulevard.

Doctors checked the student's heart, eye sight and other areas of the body as well as educated them on a healthy lifestyle.

Doctors say it's important to get the students checked out physically, especially those who participate in sports year-round.

"There's really not a whole lot of rest time in between seasons, so it's very important we screen them. If they've had any problems in the past, we can rehab them in the summer and get them ready for their upcoming season," said Sports Medicine Director Henry Rivers.

Free exams will be given to students at other Albany high and middle school in the next couple of weeks.
