Pats' Ericka Taylor signs track scholarship, chasing acting dreams

Westover's Ericka Taylor has had a pretty good week. On Thursday night, she helped the Lady Patriots claim the Region 1-AAAA title. On Friday, she signed a scholarship to take her talents to the next level.

Taylor will be running cross country and track for the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

She is the most decorated runner in Patriot history. Taylor has won four straight region cross country titles, four straight region mile and two mile championships, and the 2010 AAA State Cross Country Championship.

But she's heading to AAU not just to run, but to chase down another dream.

"It had both running and acting, and I want to do acting," she says. "That's the major I want, so to have both of what I love is just something that catches my eye."

Strangely, Taylor never set out to win the awards she did. In fact, she didn't even know she wanted to run until her first day of high school.

"When I came here, I didn't think to achieve something like that. I just came and ran and had fun," she says. "I didn't even know what cross country was. We just walked in the building, saw the booth, and my mom was like, 'You want to try it?', and I was like 'Yeah.'"

Taylor's high school track career isn't over yet. She will run in state sectionals in Statesboro April 27.
