Albany church holds mortgage note burning service

Scott Sanders, Pastor Scott Sanders, Pastor

An Albany church is holding a service of celebration this evening, after paying off it's loan paying for a new building.

Rhema International Ministries spend roughly $700,000 for a new building that opened in September 2009. And after three years of payments, the church is officially debt free.

The congregation paid the final mortgage payment last December, and tonight they will burn that old mortgage note in celebration of a new beginning.

"And we also look at debt as a weight. And the scripture really talks about it being a weight. Not a sin, but a weight, that God really gets behind us getting out of," said Scott Sanders. "So we looked at that debt, and we said we were gonna tackle it, and we tackled it all together, and the Lord got behind it."

The note burning service begins at 7pm Friday. Sanders said the church has been blessed with low overhead costs and dedicated members.

He also said the church owed $300,000 at the beginning of last year, and experienced a miracle to pay off that mortgage so quickly.
