The city of Watertown, Massachusetts, has been effectively shut down as a manhunt is underway for the second suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing.

Naomi Muchiri a former employee of our Raycom station in Birmingham is in Watertown and explains the scene there.

Residents were awakened overnight by heavy police presence and a dramatic shootout in Watertown that ended with the death of one of the Boston marathon bombing suspects while the second is still on the loose.

Police say the suspects had hijacked a car in Cambridge, Mass., and drove to Watertown while being pursued by police. Authorities used a news conference, robo-calls and Twitter to tell residents to shelter in place.

"There are a scattered few people that are out and about on the road it really feels like a ghost town, right here in Watertown square there would be normally be a packed area it's just a few people standing around in shock. There are sirens behind me right now, there are some ambulances and police cars coming over and a convoy on the street here beside me."

Muchiri is actually about a mile away from where the first suspect was gunned down overnight.
