Broad Avenue Bridge project at a standstill

Demolition of Albany's old Broad Avenue Bridge could remain at a standstill for at least two more months.

One of the arches is still standing. The company handling the project can't take it down now because of the high water level on the Flint River and because it's breeding season for an endangered mussel in the river. That season lasts through mid-June.

Demolition was initially delayed earlier this year when a protective barrier to catch debris was damaged.

Construction crews are doing some work on footings for the new bridge.
