Dougherty elementary teacher resigns

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County school teacher Deborah Flood has submitted her letter of resignation.

The letter was received by the Dougherty County School System earlier this week.

A termination hearing scheduled for Flood on Friday has now been canceled.

The termination hearing was scheduled after the state Professional Standards Commission suspended Flood for pulling down the pants of a student and inspecting her genitals two years ago.

In preparing for the hearing, Dougherty County School officials learned Flood struck a student last fall but was not disciplined for that incident.

The Dougherty County School Board still has to accept Flood's letter of resignation.

That is expected to happen at next Wednesday's board meeting.

Flood is currently on administrative leave.
