Tifton Turfgrass Festival wants vendors

TIFTON, GA – Tifton is looking for all types of vendors and exhibitors for their first annual Tifton Turfgrass Festival, set for Saturday, May 4 at Fulwood Park.

Vendors can include arts and crafts, games, food, home décor, lawn and garden, children activities, local non-profits and others.

The Tifton Turfgrass Festival will include a Kids Festival, Music Festival, festival foods, lots of vendors, as well as a Lawn & Garden Show. The Kids Festival will be held from 9 am until 1 pm. Children will have the opportunity to participate in Mi-Lady Bakery's "Decorate Your Own Cooke" activity. The cost is $1 per cookie, with a limited supply.

The Coastal Plains Regional Library system will also present "Dig Into Reading 2013," featuring an arts and crafts station, coloring, bookmarks and summer reading program information. Entertainment will be taking place all day. Performances include Carolyn Ellis dance troupes and children's songs by Daniel Parrish of Moultrie.

There will also be free barrel train rides, games and face painting. Additional arts and crafts and game vendors are needed. Churches, non-profits, youth organizations and others are encouraged to participate as a vendor. "It's going to be a really fun environment for kids and adults. There will be lots to see and do," Kunes said.

A Lawn & Garden Show will also be held from 9 am until 1 pm. This show was formally the Southeast Lawn & Garden Expo. The United Way of South Central Georgia has taken it over and teamed up with Kunes and the Turfgrass Festival. Twenty percent of total proceeds from this year's festival will go to the United Way and their activities. Greg Millette, United Way of South Central Georgia Director, said they are looking for Lawn and Garden vendors and demonstrations. This could include equipment dealers, plant nurseries, lawn and garden décor, home décor, pool supply companies and more.

Exhibitor spaces are $75 for a 10x10 space, with an additional $25 if electricity is needed. Millette said, "The United Way of South Central Georgia is really looking forward to this new partnership. The Lawn & Garden Show is a perfect fit with the Turfgrass Festival." Following the Kids Festival and Lawn & Garden Show, a lineup of bands and singers will be taking the Think Tifton stage at Fulwood Park.

From 1 until 10:30 pm, performers will include Cole Taylor, Grandpa's Cough Medicine, Soul Gravy, The Van Lears, East Beach Blues Band, Caylee Anna, Travis Denning and Stone Creek Band. Chili's and Fitzgerald Ice will provide adult beverages from 3 until 10:30 pm. Sales will be taken seriously and served in a restricted area for patrons 21 and over.

Turfgrass Festival T-shirts will also be sold during the festival. The cost to set up as a craft or food vendor is $200 for a 12x12 space. There is a $150 charge for each additional 12x12 space needed. Admission to the festival is free for all. Kunes explained that the name of the festival came about due to Tifton being known as the "Turfgrass Capital of the World."

Sponsors include the Tifton-Tift County Tourism Association, the Wiregrass Channel, Mi-Lady Bakery, 99 Rock-99.9 FM, MRS Homecare, WTIF 107.5, Bowen Promo, Plant Broadcasting, The Hook 105.7, South Georgia Chiropractic and Kunes Real Estate.
