Fitzgerald police investigates weekend robberies

FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) -

Fitzgerald police are on the lookout for a pair of robbers who hit three spots over the weekend.

Police believe they're all connected. The first happened late Saturday night at this Domino's pizza on South Grant Street. Police say the robbers went in with guns and demanded money. They got away with about $4,000.

Just down the street on Sunday, Dollar General was robbed at closing time. This time, the robbers got away with almost $2,000. The manager there gave the same description of the men who robbed the Domino's the night before.

"The description from Domino's Pizza which were two males, dark clothing, dark ski mask and dark bandana. We got the same description from the robbery scene at Dollar General," said Captain Bill Barrs.

While police were working the robbery at Dollar General, another robbery call came from Pizza Hut on Highway 129. This time the robbers didn't make it inside to take any money.

A Pizza Hut employee says he will be taking extra security measures in the future. Police also want you to be on the lookout.

"It could happen again and we would like for all businesses and citizens to be aware of their surroundings and if anything suspicious is going on and just don't look right, call the police and let us check it out," said Captain Bill Barrs.

Police have no surveillance video from the three robberies, but they are checking surveillance videos from area businesses to see if they can spot the robbers in action.

Captain Bill Barrs also mentioned that a rash of robberies like these do not happen often in the Fitzgerald area.

Fitzgerald Police wants the community to help find the robbers.

If you have any information regarding these robberies, you're asked to call the Fitzgerald Police Department at 229-426-5000.
