AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

The NAACP Sumter County chapter is parting ways with the national and Georgia state branches.

The chapter is holding a press conference to announce their decision at 11 am on 217 Forest Street in Americus Wednesday morning.

Dr. John Marshall with the Sumter County chapter says the reason for the breach is irreconcilable differences with NAACP state leaders.

The conference will also explain Dougherty, Dooly, Carroll, and Macon Counties chapters' intentions to separate.

The chapter began fighting racial discrimination in 1944 and has since held several events including a march last year in Americus for the shooting death of Florida Teenager Trayvon Martin.

The group has been renamed the God's Army for the Advancement of All people.

We'll have more details on the press conference later today.
