Firefighters train on their newest and tallest fire truck

DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) -

Albany Firefighters got their first training on their newest fire truck, high off the ground.

The firefighters took turns extending the 100 foot ladder and platform on Aerial Truck Six.

It can extend that ladder up to 100 feet off the ground. Of course firefighters have to learn how to set the truck's standards on the ground to keep it upright and safe.

The truck was made by Pierce Manufacturing in Appleton Wisconsin, which has been making fire trucks for 100 years now. Trainers say the truck is so computerized it makes it very safe.

Trainer Paul Roover said "They like it. They call it fireman proof. It stop them from making their own mistakes and able to set it up and put it away, and help them in the systems."

This fire truck, which cost nearly one million dollars, will be the Albany Fire Departments third aerial truck. Two will stay in duty, with one in reserve.
