City Commission denies funds for repair mishap

Albany City Commissioners voted against paying a contractor additional money to fix a mistake.

The Georgia Department of Transportation and the city paid for an emergency repair of a storm drain on Jefferson Street through Oxford Construction. But flooding occurred after grout used to repair the damage seeped into the storm drains near Flint Avenue.

Tuesday, City commissioners denied Oxford's request for thousands more dollars to remove the grout. The mayor said the commission will have to review laws related to the project.

"There will be some additional discussion about the legal ramifications. Whether G-DOT is responsible, weather the city was responsible. And, And....there should have been some of what was to be done by the companies," said Mayor Dorothy Hubbard.

The cleanup was finished Friday and has passed inspection. The city provided roughly $25,000 for the initial repairs.
