GHSA denies Packers' Labor day game on ESPN

It was a game that was supposed to draw a national audience on ESPN this coming fall during the high school football season but Monday the GHSA denied the request and an appeal that would have allowed Colquitt County High and Hoover High out of Alabama to play on Labor Day this fall.

Colquitt County head coach Rush Propst spent 7 years as Hoover's head coach and requested that his current school and old school play a game for the nation to see live on ESPN during prime time on Labor Day.

But the GHSA said no to the Monday Labor Day game because it would mean the Packers would have two games scheduled that week with Lovejoy also scheduled that Saturday.

GHSA by laws do not allow teams to play two games in the same week except for emergency cases.

Propst said that he knew the rule and while he respects the decision by executive director Dr. Ralph Swearingin, he hoped the association would have granted an exception because of the exposure ESPN would have brought to high school football in the state.

Propst did say that the game will instead be played instead on Friday August 30th at Hoover's Regions Park in Alabama this after the Packers dropped long time rival Thomas County Central from its schedule.
