Dougherty County will save a little money on the salary for a worker to help certify food stamp recipients.
On Monday, commissioners approved more than $17,000 for the county's half of the salary for a Division of Family and Children's Services case manager. The state handles the other half. This year, the cost decreased.
"This is an entry level position this year. The person who occupied the position prior to this was a senior level case worker," said Gloria Gaines, County Commission Vice Chair. "And this is a case worker whose coming in at entry level. So there's a reduction in the amount we had to pay this year."
Commissioner Gaines said the position is especially important in Dougherty County, which receives about $6 Million in food stamps every month.
