ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Dougherty County Finance Committee is recommending more than $40,000 in additional money for the library.

Most of that money will cover the rising cost of health insurance premiums for employees. The rest would be used for technical and professional fees.

The interim library director said the library has experienced an overall decrease in funding for the last five years, and may not be able to sustain further cuts.

"We're about at the bottom. I mean we've cut just about everything we can. You know, last year...because of funding issues, we had to close two libraries and lay off six people. So I mean there's no more in our budget," said Mike Dugan, Interim Library Director.

Dugan said the county doesn't yet have all their numbers together for this fiscal year. Until those numbers are in, the library and other departments will have to wait to see what next year's budget will look like.
