Arborist assesses hundreds of T'ville trees

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Folks in Thomasville may see a man in a golf cart this week marking live oaks and other trees on public rights-of way.

Certified arborist Jerry Holcomb was hired by Thomasville Landmarks to assess and inventory more than 650 trees in historic neighborhoods.

He'll mark each tree with a blue tag and record its GPS coordinates.

"We're checking the trees for condition. Do they need any maintenance? What needs to be done? If they need to be removed? And there probably will be some that need to be removed. There are some dead dogwoods here in town," said Holcomb.

Once the assessment is completed, a budget and treatment plan will be completed to protect the trees.
