Metal theft crooks caught on Albany business surveillance camera

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An Albany business owner hopes surveillance video will help catch the crooks who burglarized his business twice over the weekend.

Thieves have hit this business in the past as well

The owner set up a wildlife surveillance camera outside the business.

Keith Stripling says he thinks these same crooks stole old auto parts and scrap metal from Auto Air Electric last year, and came back twice this weekend. But this time he got their picture.

Take a look at this crook, breaking into the Auto Air Electric yard about 5:45 Saturday morning, stealing old auto parts. Owner Keith Stripling says someone cut the fence behind his business in the 1000 block of West Broad Avenue March 1st, and stole scrap parts and metal. He had several similar thefts last year, so he set up a wildlife style camera to catch the crooks.

Auto Air Electric owner Keith Stripling said "We can't really afford a video system. But we did put up deer trail cameras and we do have some good pictures. So we hope that this will catch this person."

Then Sunday night about 11:30 what appears to be another crook hit the same yard. Again stealing scrap metal and old auto parts.

Stripling said "Both days combined may $400 to $500 worth of scrap metal has been taken away."

Stripling said thieves had cut his fence before and he wired it shut. These crooks cut the wire to go back in the same hole. He says he and other area businesses have had theft problems, and think people just walk up and down that alley looking for something to steal.

Stripling said "So they trying to take what they can take just probably to try to make ends meet. But it's still stealing, if they are taking something that don't belong to them."

Stripling says they recycle those parts and sell the scrap metal as part of their business. He says the thefts really hurt his bottom line. Take a look at these surveillance pictures. It appears to be two different men, both stealing from Auto Air Electric over the weekend.

Stripling hopes that South Georgia metal recycling businesses will keep their eyes open for anyone matching that description, bringing in auto air conditioning parts.

Albany Police are investigating these thefts, and asking if you recognize those crooks to let them know who they are.
