Public hearing held for multimodal site

Folks in Albany got a chance to tell city leaders their thoughts on a new multimodal hub location, Tuesday night.

Around 25 people showed up to talk about three proposed sites for the transportation center.

The three locations are the current bus station on South Jackson, the former site of the Heritage House and the Old Carmike Theater on Gillionville Road.

Many of those who spoke out, Tuesday, say they want to keep the current bus station as the site of the new hub.

City leaders say construction on a new site is nowhere close to beginning.

"Depending on if we have to acquire property and those sorts of things, there's all of these steps we have to go through for each of them (sites) adding regulatory requirements. I think we're easily a year or a year and a half out from staring construction," said Assistant City Manager Wes Smith.

It could be about a month or so before commissioners pick a site.

The next step would be an environmental assessment on the site which could take 6 to 8 months.
