DCSS considers the future of closing schools

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County School Board members have not yet decided what they'll do with Dougherty Middle and Sylvester Road Elementary Schools when they close after this school year.

Interim Superintendent Dr. David Mosely says several parties have expressed interest in acquiring the properties.

Board member Darrel Ealum says he's staying on top of the issue to make sure the schools don't turn into empty buildings that attract vagrants and crime. "There's state law that's very specific about we as a district have to say what we're going to do with those facilities. You just can't ignore it. I'm asking those questions and you know I'm going to continue to ask them until I get an answer," he said.

The board does not have a timetable to decide what to do with the schools.
