ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

While many kids are spending their spring breaks at the beach, some chose to learn about civil rights in south Georgia.

10 students, ages 10 through 15, and 20 teachers from Atlanta were in Albany Saturday learning about the civil rights movement. Their first stop was to the Civil Rights Museum, where they heard songs from the Freedom Singers. Educators say this trip is all about helping students become stronger leaders in their community.

"We're hoping throughout this trip, that they learn more about history and who they are and start thinking about the leaders that created the mark and their own leadership and what they want to do," said Ayanna Gabriel.

Sunday, the group will visit Shiloh Baptist Church and the Cypress Pond Plantation. Teach for America of Atlanta is sponsoring the trip.
