ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

On December 23, 2010 a hero died in the line of duty to protect and bring justice to his community.

Lieutenant Cliff Rouse worked with the Dougherty County Police Department and was fatally shot while responding to an armed robbery.

He may be lost, but Saturday's 3rd annual Dice Ride is evidence that he will never be forgotten.

"Just a wonderful tribute that was loved by community and loved by his family. Just dedicated his life to the cause," said Jackie Rouse, Lieutenant Rouse's mother.

Loved ones say Rouse was always supportive of any motorcycle ride at his work and in his community.

In his honor, around 125 bikers rode their motorcycles along with several drivers in antique cars.

They began at 10:45 Saturday morning, making three stops before returning to the American Legions 30 Post.

"I understand that he just loved to lead them, you know, in the patrol unit. Of course, he really associated himself with a lot of the blue knights and we were proud to have him," said John Patton, a member of the Georgia 3 Blue Knights Club.

Before the ride began, bikers made sure to take a moment to say a few words about their hero and ask for a safe ride and return.

"We had blessings of the bikes and prayer before we departed the parking lot. Just a joyous time by all," said Patton.

There was a raffle, auction, and live band playing after the ride and throughout their meals.

Organizers say they had a huge turn out with everyone there to recognize the risk Rouse and other officers have taken to protect their community.

"Remember him and any other officer. You know, pat them on the shoulder and just tell them you love them," said Rouse.

Because of that risk, Rouse's loved ones say he isn't the only hero out there.

They say each law enforcer is a hero.. that offers their life  up day-to-day to protect their country.

Proceeds from today's event will be for a plaque given to Dougherty County as a reminder of Lieutenant Rouse's life.

The remainder of the funds will benefit the C.O.P.S. Organization for family members of any officer killed in the line of duty.
