We've got an update on the condition of a south Georgia horse and her twin foals.

Tifton Tift County Animal Control Director Regenia Willis-Wells says the rare twins are doing fine and the health of the mother is improving.

She began an investigation after seeing our story this week in which the mother appeared to be underweight. She says animal control officers checked on the horses each day. Georgia Department of Agriculture Equine Protection Agents have also seen the horses twice.

Wells says the owners are cooperating and following strict orders from a veterinarian to make sure the mother, named Betty Girl, gets healthy.

Here is a statement Wells released to WALB News 10.

"Within 24 hours of this story airing on our local news, the Tifton-Tift County Animal Control Director and the Georgia Department of Agriculture Equine Protection Agents responded to the residence.  The owners are cooperating and all the horses are now under a Veterinarians care.

We appreciate the outpouring of concern and want to assure you, we work diligently to prevent animal cruelty. Please rest assured this situation will be closely monitored but due to the ongoing investigation, information is confidential at this time."
