Are video rental stores a thing of the past? Not so fast

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Not long ago, South Georgia video stores would be packed on a Friday night with folks renting movies, but that business is changing.

Last month, Blockbuster Video shut down 300 stores nationwide, including the one in Albany.

The manager at Video Warehouse on Old Dawson says business there increased after its competitor shut down.

She says it's tougher for movie rental stores to make it these days, but some people still like to rent movies in person.

"Sometimes when you stream movies you have to have a Playstation or Xbox or some type of new technology and some people don't care to upgrade as fast," said Ashley Mcghee.

Dish Network bought Blockbuster in 2011.

500 stores remain open in the US.
