HAHIRA, GA (WALB) -

A horse ranch in Lowndes County is helping children battle cancer. Tomorrow KB Horse Camp is putting on a horse rodeo to raise awareness for childhood cancer. WALB News 10's Lydia Jennings sat down with one little girl fighting cancer who will be riding tomorrow.

For the past two years Savannah Dallas has been coming to KB horse camp in Hahira to ride her favorite horse, Oreo. She rides to get her mind off of a fight she battles everyday - leukemia.

"It's hard to do it, to get through it. Some people at 7, kids die from it. And a lot of other people live through it," said Savannah.

Diagnosed at the age of four and recently in remission, Savannah says it's this horse who helped her fight. "It just feels good to me. It gives me things to think about. The horse that I get on is usually Oreo."

"It's the greatest therapy in the world. We never could thank Kim enough for what she's done, and help bring awareness and help bring peace to Savannah's heart while she fights this beast," said her father, Scott Dallas.

Kim McGhee owns KB Horse Camp and after learning about all the children battling cancer in south Georgia she decided to do something to help them get through it.

"The rodeo we'll be having for these kids in our local area and surrounding area fighting cancer is to bring joy to them, and nothing will cost them a dime," said McGhee.

13,500 children are diagnosed with cancer a year in the U.S. - that's 36 a day.

"It's what the Ride For Life Rodeo is about, is to let people know this is going on right under your nose, right in your back yard. Your child could be next," said Dallas.

Nine of the children riding in the rodeo tomorrow have cancer, and three will be riding in place of children who recently lost their battle.

"When I grow up I want to help children get through the battle." Savannah says she wants to train horses one day to help more children with cancer find peace in their battle.
