Dougherty County Farm Bureau hosts blood drive

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Dougherty County Farm Bureau hosted its first blood drive Wednesday.

The office manager says the drive held a special meaning for the bureau because two of their members recently needed blood. She urges people to donate lifesaving blood, even if they couldn't make it Wednesday.

"And you never know, like I said, when you will need it. But if you have a chance to donate, will you please go out and donate," said Debra Cleveland, Dougherty County Farm Bureau Office Manager. "There are people that can't donate, and that's understandable, but if you have a chance, and are not here today, maybe another set-up for the Red cross. Please try to go out and donate, because you never know when a family member or friend, or you know, when a co-worker might need it."

The American Red Cross says 38% of the population is eligible to give blood, but only about 3%actually donate.
