The new Commander of Investigations at the Valdosta Police department is making history.
Lieutenant Leslie Manahan is the first woman to hold the position. She replaces former Investigative Bureau Commander Brian Childress who is now Chief of Police. Manahan started with VPD as a patrol officer in 1997 and worked her way up to Lieutenant of Investigations in 2007. She's helped the department solve all of their homicide cases for the past three years.
"I love investigations. Its being able to watch a case from the beginning to the end, to give victims closure is one of the greatest accomplishments that you can experience," said Manahan.
City leaders and Chief Childress interviewed five internal applicants before hiring Manahan.
