Nothing's left of temporary Americus hospital

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

Another milestone is reached in recovery from a deadly Americus tornado.

The last remnants of a temporary hospital have been demolished.

Six years ago, a twister killed two people and destroyed Sumter Regional Hospital. Portable units that previously had only been used for military housing were assembled into a 70-bed hospital that served the community for several years.

The new Phoebe Sumter Medical Center opened to patients in December 2011.
