ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The CEO of a South Georgia food bank is praising a growing federal program aimed at feeding more hungry people in our region.

The US Department of Agriculture launched its StrikeForce Initiative in 2010 in selected regions in three states, including Georgia.

It's designed to boost rural economic growth.

The USDA helped fund a $4-million distribution center in Thomasville that allows Second Harvest to serve more people in need.

"Because you're able to put some matching money or to put programs like StrikeForce where these real good technical assistance groups are working with us, it's helping us find a new level of helping those who are really in need," said Second Harvest CEO Frank Richards.

In 2011, Strikeforce expanded to three other states and now is growing to include ten more.
