Community invited to support Cliff Rouse Memorial Ride

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The third annual Cliff Rouse Memorial Ride cranks up Saturday, and law enforcement officials are asking everyone in the community to take part to honor the fallen Dougherty County Police officer.

Organizers expect more than 150 motorcycles to take part in the ride, but any kind of vehicle is welcome. Cops say it's important for the community to remember Lt. Rouse who was shot and killed chasing an armed robbery suspect December 23, 2010.

"Never forgetting our fallen officers," said former Dougherty County Police Chief Don Cheek. "Remembering that their families are still here. And it means an awful lot to the family to know that the community still remembers their loved one."

The Rouse Memorial Ride will begin at the American Legion Post 30 on Gillionville Road about 10:30 Saturday. They'll serve breakfast and lunch at the post, with the money raised going to the Georgia Cops Foundation that supports police survivors and to erect a memorial for Rouse outside the Dougherty County Police headquarters.
