STATENVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Ashley Renea Humphrey, 24, of Jasper, Florida was arrested near Statenville as investigators were conducting an identity theft probe.

Echols Co. Sheriff Randy Courson provided this information on the arrest-

On Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at approximately 3:30 P.M. Sheriff Courson received a complaint from a concerned citizen in reference to a case involving possible identity fraud.  The citizen stated there had been mail sent to some of their rental properties under names other than the tenants that lived there.

Sheriff Courson dispatched Investigator Will Neel to the scene to start an investigation.  As Investigator Neel was taking down information a call came in to the landlord from one of the tenants stating that a person was there attempting to pick up the mail.  Investigator Neel observed a 2000 model blue Nissan Maxima leaving the tenants residence.

Investigator Neel conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Ashley Renea Humphrey, 24, of Jasper, FL. After speaking with Humphrey, Investigator Neel received consent to search the vehicle.  Investigator Neel discovered several credit cards and billing statements belonging to different individuals.

Evidence collected from the vehicle tied Humphrey to multiple felony cases being worked by several agencies to include the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, Valdosta Police Department, and Lowndes County Sheriff's Office as well as other surrounding agencies involving identity fraud and other charges.

Humphrey was taken into custody and initially charged with three counts of felony identity fraud and one felony count of attempting and conspiring to commit identity theft. Other charges and arrests are pending the outcome of the investigation.

Humphrey also faces multiple counts of felony identity fraud charges in Hamilton County, FL, Suwannee County, FL, Lowndes County, and Valdosta.
