Stop the Violence Rally held in wake murdered Moultrie men

MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

A stop the violence rally was held Tuesday afternoon in Moultrie at the house where four people were shot, one of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene and another died two weeks later.

Now family members and church leaders are pleading for the public to put an end to violence in their city.

There was a somber mood Tuesday afternoon in Moultrie as crowds gathered to remember James Key and Eric Debruce.

23-year-old Derek Rushing and 24-year-old Dewayne Williams are currently charged with murdering the two men.

GBI agents say Rushing got into an argument earlier that day with another man and came back later that night looking for him.

Agents say Rushing then fired shots into a crowd of people standing outside the home, thinking the man was there, even though he wasn't.

"I hope that not another mother have to go through what I went through. I lost my brother then I turned around and lost my son, it's hard. It's real hard," said Lola Lee.

Lee is the mother of Debruce and sister of Key. She admits it's been extremely difficult dealing with the two deaths of people so close to her.

"My heart goes out to their parents because they're hurting although they still have their kids, but I want ever be able to see mines again. I want ever be able to tell them I love you," said Lee.

"They just have to answer for what they did to God. I have no judgment for those people," said Vanessa Key.

key is the widow of James Key. She is now left to raise their three children, which she says is difficult.

"It's hard when your child wakes up and says where's daddy, when is daddy coming home, why can't I talk to daddy," said Key.

Now, church leaders and law enforcement officials are pleading for the public to end violence in Moultrie.

"Enough is enough. We're bigger than this. Our community needs to grow and without God, we can't grow," said Pastor Dr. RO Calhoun.

"I hope they learn something from this and stop it. Stop all this senseless killing. It's just senseless," said Lee.

The two men left behind a combined 9 children and 7 grandchildren.

The two others who were wounded in that shooting are recovering.
