TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

The Southwest Georgia Project for Community Education hosted its first ever Farmer's Field day April 2, 2013.

Farmers, hobbyists and students learned about the business of agriculture through various speakers and demonstrations at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture in Tifton.

The event was sponsored by Sustainable Agriculture Research and Environment and other large companies. But the main goal of the day was to get people involved in agriculture.

"It doesn't matter if you have small acreage or large acreage," said Paula Rogers, Project Coordinator. "You can learn something here today and ask those questions that are on your mind. And get it straight from the horses mouths, so to speak."

Some participants took part in a demonstration on developing products from goats. Others attended a luncheon centering on women's progression in the agricultural business.

Organizers hope to expand the event to other areas in the future.
