Man crashes into pole; runs from police

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany police say the driver of a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer crashed into a light pole just before fleeing the scene early Monday morning.

Officials say the driver lead police on a high-speed chase that started in the parking lot of FOX 31. The driver then proceeded to drive off the embankment and continue to fly down Palmyra Road. When he tried to take a left on Schley Avenue, the driver overcorrected and crashed into a nearly 50-foot utility pole.

The driver, and possibly another passenger, got out of the car and fled the scene. Police are still on the lookout from the suspect(s).

Water, Gas, and Light crews were out there working for over four hours; trying to replace the broken pole with a new one.

No houses were reported without power. Officials do not have a description of the suspect(s) at this time but urge anyone with any information to call Crime Stoppers at 436-8477.
