ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

For South Georgia churches, Easter is more than just a day for celebrating with bunnies and eggs. Members of the First Baptist Church of Albany say it's a day of hope.

The church's celebration began last week with Palm Sunday and ended Sunday with an Easter worship service.

There was also a sunrise service at 7 a.m. to recognize Jesus Christ rising from death after dying on a cross three days before.

"Jesus could of gone to a cross and died on the cross for our sin but if he hadn't of been raised from the dead, none of that would matter," said Pastor Butch Knight of First Baptist Church in Albany.

The pastor says it's the holiest week and the cornerstone of their beliefs.

"It gives us hope. It reminds us that God loves us. It reminds us that God is faithful," Knight said. "It's just everything that we believe hinges upon Jesus being raised from the dead. He is risen."

The church says they saw a larger crowd than usual this morning and they hope to see more throughout the year.
