Reward offered to find stolen musical instruments

DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) -

A South Georgia band was able to perform a concert, Friday night, despite having most of their musical equipment stolen earlier that morning.

Area musicians lent the band instruments for Friday's performance, but now the band is offering a reward hoping to recover their stolen property.

Highway 55's lead singer Cody Smith showed us the damage left by thieves who stole a trailer like the one shown here early Friday morning from this property on Byron Plantation Road.

Smith didn't realize the trailer was missing until later that morning.

"There's really not an explanation for somebody to steal something. We work very hard at what we do and we spent many hours trying to save up money to buy the equipment that we have," said Smith.

There was even a hat left behind at the scene belonging to whoever took the trailer.

Smith suspects the thieves thought they were stealing construction tools because of a house being built on the property, but they got away with much more.

They took off with thousands of dollars worth of musical instruments.

"Guitars, full shine drum set, 2 guitar amps, 3 or 4 guitars sound board and monitors," said Smith.

Highway 55 was scheduled to play at the State Theater Friday night and the situation looked dim after the crime, but area musicians stepped up and let the band borrow instruments for the performance.

Band members were touched by the generous act of kindness.

"Being able to depend on people like that when you're in a time of need is definitely great and you're thankful for it," said Smith.

Now the band is offering $500 for anyone with information that leads to the trailer because the possessions inside of it have more than a monetary value.

"These people that steal just don't appreciate anything. They just come and take it, they don't have to pay for it and they don't understand not only how much it's worth but how much it means to us. The sentimental value we have towards our instruments. They're our lives and we need them to get by," said Smith.

Dougherty County Police need your help to find that trailer. If you have any information in this case, call Dougherty County Police at 430-6600.

You may be eligible to get a reward from Highway 55.
