ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The parks at Chehaw hosted a special program that lets three and four year-olds have a close encounter with some zoo animals.

The Chehaw cubs camp provides a story, snack and live animal lesson for small children on the last Friday of every month. Not many people know about the program, so the park hopes to get the word out. It gives parents and their children the chance to learn something new together.

"Cubs is a great program for mom and child to go do something fun together, have your outing, and it's also educational. And what kid doesn't like the chance to see an animal or touch an animal," said Erica Massie, Parks at Chehaw Volunteer.

Massie first learned of the program after attending with her own son, but has been volunteering ever since.

After the animal encounter, campers were given a zoo tour and arts and crafts time.

March 29th, was the first time the program was held this year because of weather cancellations last month. Each month campers can expect to learn about and experience a different animal.
