ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Turner Elementary students got a close up look at wild animals at the Chehaw zoo on March 29, 2013.

The class trip served as a way to link class room learning with out of class experience.  Students toured the zoo and its exhibits before coming into contact with some less popular animals at the wild animal theater, where they got an up close and personal look at some creepy and fluffy animals.

And surprisingly, the scarier animals end up becoming some class favorites.

"Surprisingly they like the things that make them squirm. They go 'oh gross,' but then it winds up that those are their favorite animals. So it's pretty neat to watch them," said Jackie Entz, Chehaw Education Coordinator.

The visit is part of Georgia state education standards to ensure equal education to kids across the state.

Entz said the zoo is excited to expose kids to nature and different types of animals. She also says zoo visits are a fun way to make classroom lessons come alive.
