Dragging victim wants justice

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A Leesburg man, badly injured after a man stole his cell phone in the Albany Mall parking lot and then dragged him on the back of his car, is speaking out.

Michael Loubier says his act of kindness back fired and landed him in the hospital, and he wants the thief who did it caught.

Loubier bears the scars of a kind act gone wrong. Around 7:30 Thursday night he was dragged on the back of a car driven by a man he let use his cell phone outside the Albany Mall.

"I said that would be alright. I didn't really want to, but I felt bad for him," Loubier said.

As soon as the man put the phone to his ear-- "He hits the gas. I reached out to grab him. I couldn't grab him so I went to bang on the car. I grabbed the spoiler and at that point, the car was going 15 mph," Loubier said.

Loubier hit the pavement suffering cuts to his face and arms and hands. He also suffered a concussion.

"He was a white guy, heavy set, with a clean short beard. He had a straight brim hat cocked to the side and South Pole shirt on," he said.

The man was also driving a distinctive car- An early 2000s model white Mustang with a tan top. Loubier says he doesn't really care about the phone. But he doesn't have health insurance, and wants the guy who did this to him to get caught and pay up.

"If they catch him, I'm not going to be the one paying it."

Loubier says sadly he'll have to think twice now about being a Good Samaritan. He's just glad he's around to talk about it.

If you have any information about the suspect in this case call Crimestoppers at 229-436-TIPS.
